I can’t get pregnant – what should I do?

I understand how frustrating it feels when you are struggling to get pregnant and it’s just not happening… again.

Most of your friends have children and you are constantly questioning yourself whether you will ever be able to become a parent, too.

You are visiting family or friends for a gathering who have kids. You notice how happy they are.

But instead of feeling pleased to see them and enjoying the party fully – you really feel resentful.

You hate yourself for feeling that way.  And that upsets you even more.

So, what can you do?

The first thing you need to do is to stop worrying.

I know it’s easier said than done – I get it.

But…ask yourself, will worrying get you pregnant?

I’m sure you know the answer:  No, definitely not!

Stressing about things increases levels of cortisol (stress) hormone in your body. This means you are in survival mode. Your autonomic nervous system shifts into fight or flight mode – shutting down your ability to procreate.

What else can you do to get pregnant?

  1. Relax your mind by finding a meditation class. If you don’t know where to start, search for ‘mindfulness meditation’ or ‘transcendental meditation’.
  2. Keep your body fit by finding a local yoga class. If you don’t like yoga, go for a run or go for a bicycle ride.
  3. Spend your weekends in nature, where you can go for walks. Spending time in nature will relax you and recharge your batteries.
  4. Make sure you get enough sleep – go to bed before 11PM.
  5. Keep your uterus warm by:
  • Wearing socks and slippers at home
  • Blow-drying your hair after washing – don’t go to sleep or outside with wet hair
  • Avoid sleeping or sitting in a draught
  • Avoid swimming during your period
  • Change into dry clothes after swimming
  • Avoid sitting on cold surfaces
  • Avoid making love during your period
  • Keep your abdomen and back warm or wear a Haramaki.

Some other ideas:

  1. Find a therapist that that specialises in fertility support, with therapies such as: AcupunctureReflexologyMaya abdominal therapy, also called fertility massage and EFT.
  2. Nourish your body with high quality, organic food – your body needs the correct nutrients to produce reproductive hormones.
  3. Take time, prepare 3 to 6 months in advance – it takes 90 days for an egg to fully mature.
  4. Laugh often and love yourself – love your womb.

Over to you:

I’d love to hear from you.
